The British Columbia Gulf Island Photos on this page offer a glimpse of Galiano Island through the eyes of a one-time resident, now visitor, and eternal Galiano Island lover. When we visit Galiano, we explore the beaches, spend afternoons hiking and sightseeing, then collapse in our chosen cottage rental with a fire and marvel at the magnificence of the day.

My husband and travel companion on the BC Ferry headed to Galiano Island. Ferry transport should be booked ahead of time through BC Ferries to ensure you get to the Island without delay or frustration. There's always a giddy anticipation that washes over me the moment we drive into the ferry terminal. Ready, set, go!
Here's an example of the spectacular view of Active Pass from Bellhouse Point on Galiano Island. The low moan of the ferry horn calls out to warn other boaters of it's approach. If you're there at the right time, you'll get to see two ferries passing eachother in the narrow waters between Mayne and Galiano Islands.
That's me chillin' in an intriguing rock formation gouged out by years of salt-water crashing up on the rocks. Inviting, isn't it. Hard to resist curling up in one.
See what I mean?! The husband found his own special rock he wanted a portrait with. These eroded rock formations cover the shores of Galiano Island, and they're all different.
This rock compelled "Uncle Rick" to climb on and ride the mystical seahorse he saw in the unique formation. Inspiration abounds as you hike around the beaches and explore the natural wonders that make up the shoreline of Galiano Island.
Here's a nice wide view of the spectacular rocks around the shore. That's me waving from atop one of the huge boulders.
Here we found a shelter among the rocks and took the opportunity to snuggle in for a photo opp. Cozy huh?
The spectacles on the Island are not reserved for the wilderness. You'll likely see some quirky things from residents as you explore as well. This car was just too funny not to get a photo of!
My Favorite Places British Columbia Gulf Island Photo Gallery
To me, this photo is representative of the kind of place Galiano Island is. Development is slow, and respectful of the environment. They may build roads, but will not sacrifice a beautiful tree just to ease transportaion. You gotta love it!
We came across this plane wreckage while hiking Mount Galiano. A person can't help but wonder about the outcome for the pilot and passengers. If I ever do find out more, I'll post it here.
Another view. Sure hope no-one was hurt, but by the looks of it, the chances are slim that anyone walked away from this.
A personal version of the Canadian flag. We found this beautiful maple leaf with such distinctive colors. Couldn't resist having a little fun with it. Perhaps the Island air brings on the sillies. Oh well, it still brings a smile to my face.
My husband gazing reflectively out at the sea. This photo is special because we're in the bay that I lived in as a child on Galiano Island. This was the beach we frolicked on as kids, rowing the boat (tied to a rock) and digging up clams, completely oblivious to our good fortune.
This shelter is perched atop the Bluffs of Galiano Island. You can't see it in the photo, but the entire thing has been carved with people's names, inside and out. My name is in there twice, once as a child, and once on a trip back to the Island at the age of 18.
My favorite tree on the entire Island, this mammoth beauty is right at the parking area of the Bluffs. I've been climbing it at every opportunity since childhood and a trip to the island would not be complete without a little bond session with my tree.
I attended Sunday School at this church many moons ago, and caught the school bus right out front of it. Many memories here.
Part of Galiano's charm is that things are not just hauled away to keep the Island looking pristine. This wreckage has obviously been here a while and it adds character in my humble opinion.
This photo illustrates the tranquil simplicity that is Galiano Island to this Island lover. Just a simple rowboat perched atop the rocks, waiting for it's owner to come round and take it on another voyage. Nothing high-tech about this and that suits me just fine.
